PPP over Frame Relay

Scenario

You are a network engineer specialized in frame-relay. The ISP you work for has a new security policy and wants that all frame-relay connections run authentication. Unfortunately this is not possible so you prepare to configure PPP over frame-relay. Using PPP will ensure you can add authentication in the future.

Goal:

  • All IP addresses have been preconfigured for you.
  • Configure a virtual template on router Compact and Decrease and configure network 192.168.23.0 /24 on it.
  • Configure the serial0/0 interfaces for frame relay and use the virtual-template and PPP.
  • Ensure router Jack and Emma can ping each other through the PPP over frame relay network.

      1. sir i want to get frame relay labs i have got the Lab but not able to read them,,,because their file formet is CFG,, how i open these types of files,, Pls Guide me ,

  4. Can anyone verify the appropriate method of applying the downloaded configurations for the labs to the GNS3 router simulatoor?

    1. You can use the import/export button in the GNS3 toolbar or just open my .cfg files in notepad/wordpad and copy/paste the configs.

    I downloaded attached file. it working. but when i try to ping 192.168.12.1 (jack) from emma.. the ping is %0 sent. But when i ping 192.168.12.2 its it is %100.

    Also when ping emma (192.168.12.2) from jack still same. ping is sent %0 packages.

  6. Hi Rene,
    First of all you did great work explaining the technologies. My doubt is why didn’t we fetch ip address on serial interfaces on Compact and Decrease by .. Currently they don’t have ip assigned right?
    I tend to relate unnumbererd with virtual-template. Can you please clear my doubts regarding these dependencies? I always jumble these two concepts.

    2. Hi Chintan,

      I took a look at my final configuration and I configured an IP address manually on the virtual template of these routers, this is fine.

      IP unnumbered basically borrows an IP address from another interface, you see it often used for virtual templates but it is not required, you can just configure an IP address manually if you want. I decided this would be a nice blog post to cover so take a look here:
