The book is in PDF format. I own a Kindle myself and you can read PDFs on it without any problems. I think I will put the book on Amazon as well so you can buy and download it directly to the kindle.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

Are you providing simulator with this pdf book.

Sorry for the late response, I saw you posted a comment about my book "How to Master CCNA".
You only need two things to study CCNA:
- GNS3 Emulator (download it from http://gns3.net it is free).
- My labs which you find on this site, they are free as well.
If you want to practice on routers you don't have to buy anything...it's all here on my website. My book covers the "Theory" you need to know on CCNA. Things like distance vector, split horizon, LSA's and such are not something you can learn from labs but you'll have to read about them.
Does this answer your question?
Best Regards,
Rene

Congratz for the book.
I'm currently studying for ccnp but surely will buy your book soon :)

Owen Cisco
I was just wondering, how many pages and chapters are in your book?
Thanks .
Rene Molenaar
My book is 200 pages and has the following chapters:
1. Basics of networking
2. The OSI-Model
3. The network layer: IP Protocol
4. The Transport Layer: TCP and UDP
5. Ethernet: Dominating your LAN for over 30 years
6. Hubs, Bridges and Switches
7. Virtual LANs (VLANS), Trunks and VTP
8. Spanning-Tree (STP)
9. Binary, Subnetting and Summarization.
10. IP Routing
11. RIP – Distance Vector Routing Protocol
12. OSPF – Link-state routing protocol
13. EIGRP – Cisco‟s Hybrid Routing Protocol
14. Security: Keeping the bad guys out
15. Network address Translation (NAT & PAT)
16. Wireless Networks
17. IPv6: welcome to the future
18. Wide area networks
Basically the book explains everything you need to know that I can't teach you directly in labs. To give you an example:
If you are studying RIP or EIGRP you need to understand what a Distance Vector type routing protocol is and the problems they have...stuff like Split Horizon,Route Poisoning etc.
For each of the chapters there are "theoretical" things like this which I explain in the book.
Let me know if you have any more questions ok?

Thanks for your interest :) I'm writing "How to Master CCNP ROUTE" right now and hopefully I can finish it next week. It takes quite some time but i'm writing it just like my CCNA book...technical stuff explained without marketing sauce.
Lloyd Prindle
I will buy the CCNP book too.
Rene Molenaar
Thanks that's great to hear. I'm working hard to finish it but its taking me more time compared to the CCNA book...hopefully it is finished in 2-3 weeks :) I'll let you know when i'm ready!

You do an excellent job, and help me a lot :-)
And now, please, one doubt, are you selling this printed?
Because, I dont't like to read on computer.
And the last one, could you send it to Brazil?
Congrats!
Best
Edson
Rene Molenaar
Thanks for your comment, good to hear my work is useful to you!
About the book...I'm not sure if i'm going to sell it in a printed version, there are 2 options for me:
1) Use a print-on-demand service like lulu.com but I think the printing will cost something like 20-25 dollar per book (would have to check) making the book more expensive.
2) I could buy 100+ books and have them in stock. Its probably cheaper than print-on-demand but I would have to ship the books myself.
It's something I have to look into if its worth the effort :)
Anyone else that would prefer a printed copy over an Ebook?
Rene
strasser
I'm glad to hear you're working on a CCNP book!
There are a LOT of $50.00 books on the market. For me, if your book is $25.00 it's worth making the sacrifice of reading it on the computer and I'd be more inclined toward purchase.
Strasser
Rene Molenaar
It'll cost 24.95 (ok..that's 25 with a little psychological marketing ;).
If you don't like reading from the screen...have you ever tried an ebook reader? I bought an Amazon Kindle and i'm loving it. Heading for Gran Canaria tommorow and my Kindle is what i'm reading on at the beach :)
strasser
Now there seems to be many such units, is Kindle still the "best" one to get?
Tom Marcoen
The reason I'm asking for a sample is that there are so many books on the internet that teach you about CCNA/CCNP-topics and since I can't buy them all, I need to try and pick the best books, based on reading samples and reviews.
Rene Molenaar
Good question and good idea. I'm almost done with it and next week it will be published. I'll send an e-mail with 1 or 2 sample chapters to read to see if you like it.
Printed books are nice but also more expensive to create. Have you ever considered an e-reader like the Amazon Kindle? I have one and read all my technical books on it.
I'll send you a message when the CCNP ROUTE book is done ok?

First of all thanks for writing this book. I rad all the above comment and it seems your book will be very good, I do have couple of questions I hope you don't mind giving me the answer for that.
1, I need a printed copy of your book.
2, Do you supply to Australia.
3, Is your book for beginner
4, Can I apply for CCNA after reading your book, I do have a IT knowledge of over 7 Years but not that much of Networking.
5, How can i buy your latest book printed copy if not pdf version?
Regards
Snehal.
Rene Molenaar
No worries thanks for your message! If you have 7 years of IT experience but not in networking then I believe my CCNA book will be very helpful to you. CCNA is the first Cisco certification so I have described everything for beginners.
About the printed copy/shipping to Australia...at the moment I don't have printed copies but I'm looking into "print-on-demand" options. The downside of printed copies is that its expensive to print and ship them. I realize a lot of people prefer reading from paper so it's definitely something I'm thinking about.
Best Regards,
Rene
Kay
I have never done Network+ before but I just completed my A+ certification.
Will your book be too hard for me? Thanks for your reply!
Rene Molenaar
If you did A+ you should be fine. Network+ from Comptia covers the same "Basic Networking" as Cisco CCNA but it includes a little bit operating system stuff while Cisco is 100% networking. CCNA covers more material than network+
After reading the book you will understand all the theoretical stuff you need to pass your CCNA. Combine that with doing labs and you will be ok. If you still have questions after reading the book you can drop them in the forum where I answer everything.

Awhile back, I was studying Accounting. I tried everything, from dummies books to expensive classes. No good. Just more and more confusion. Then, just as I was about to give up, I stumbled across a cool video program and instantly everything fell into place.
Just goes to show you, expensive training doesn't equal good training. Just goes to show, a teacher, who connects all the dots, makes a world of difference.
Somehow, I have a feeling that you are that kind of teacher. Now if I can only just get a fricken credit card!
Rene Molenaar
To teach I believe two things are very important:
a) Use the KISS method (Keep It Simple Stupid). no need for whistles & bells.
b) Try to explain things that relate to that person so they see the value of what they are learning.
A bit off-topic but I think teaching is fun to do :) You can also use paypal if you have that.
Carol
Firstly to commend you for taking time writing these books and giving us all CCNA lovers the urge to keep studying, well done! I'm in South Africa and would love to have a copy of How to master CCNA, however, I'm also for the idea of having a printed copy so i wanted to know if it's possible to ship one here as well.
Great labs too :)
Rene Molenaar
Thanks for your message! At this moment I only have the ebooks. For me its easier to create an ebook because there is no shipping/printing involved. However since so many people are asking me for printed copies I'm going to look into this to see if I can find a good solution for printed copies.
When I know more you'll hear from me ok?
Rene
Rene Molenaar
Thanks for your message! At this moment I only have the ebook because it is easier with shipping. Since so many people are requesting a printed copy I'm going to look for a good solution. As soon as I have found something I'll let you know OK?

Thanx for your response. Meanwhile, I'll purchase the ebook.
Once more, great job!!

My book explains everything in a simple form. I'm explaining everything the same way I do when i'm teaching CCNA in class. I believe it's helpful because I have learned what parts people have trouble with or not. Besides theory i'll tell you which labs you have to do on GNS3Vault and in what order to pass your CCNA.
Good luck with your CCNA!
Mo
I'm going for my CCNA exam in December 2011. Is you book updated to reflect the current CCNA exam along with the Labs. Plus how many labs do you have for CCNA which utilizes GNS3 Simulator.
Regards,
Mo'
Rene Molenaar
My book is up-to-date for the latest CCNA exam. It covers all the theory you need to know.
About the labs you might want to look at this article I wrote:
http://gns3vault.com/198-ccna-labs.html
For CCNA I have 95% of the labs with free Youtube video solutions and final configurations. If you feel a CCNA lab is missing you just let me know and I'll create it.

I did my best for a good preparation but still that was not enough. I going to do the exam for the 3 th at the end of Oktober. Can this book help me to pass ?
thanks
Rene Molenaar
Sorry to hear you didn't pass the exam. After two times you should have a good idea though which topics you are having trouble with. My book explains all the theory you need to know. The key to passing CCNA is understanding all the theory and then doing a LOT of labs to get the practical experience.
What do you feel is the problem you didn't pass the exam? Do you have trouble understanding the theory or do you feel you lack practical experience? If you have trouble understanding the different protocols my book will help. If you feel you understand the theory you should focus more on doing labs, labs and even more labs.
let me know if you have any questions ok?

All the videos on GNS3Vault are for free, you can also find them on my Youtube channel. The books are for sale and will help you to understand all the theory needed for the exam.

Packet Tracer is a great tool for CCNA, the only downside is that it's a simulator with a limited range of commands. If you want to learn more about networking it's better to switch to real hardware or a emulator like GNS3/Dynamips.

Just a quick comment about your books, i just purchased two of them, to be specific, "How to Master CCNA" and "Subnetting" they're grate, easy to follow, well explaned and i'm having a great time reading them. so thank you for the time and effort that you spent to writing this books. i'll definately recommend your stuff.

I'm doing fine thanks :) hope you too!
It's hard to say how much hours it will take but I think roughly you'll need around 100 hours to study and master CCNA. The thing is that understanding the theory isn't so bad but you will have to spend a LOT of time on your routers and switches, doing labs, looking at show commands, checking out some debugs to fully understand what is going on. The exam is very 'practical'...you will need your time to understand it all + get hands on experience.
I hope this is helpful, if you have any more questions just let me know ok?

I appreciate the book. I am currently studying CCNA by reading Wendell Odom his books have over 600 pages in both books the ICND1 and ICND2. Your book is 200 pages is it just the meat and am I getting everything that I need to pass CCNA?
Rene Molenaar
The books from Wendel Odom are very good (I like all his stuff) but it's also very "thorough". I wrote "How to Master CCNA" to explain only the theory needed to beat the CCNA exam..so in short yes, it's "just the meat". No history lessons, no CCNP-level information that is "nice to know" and such.
It only covers the theory and the understanding of the protocols you require in order to succesfully do labs and beat the exam.

I'm currently only selling my books on my own website so you won't find them at the moment on Amazon. If you purchase any of my books you will receive a normal PDF that you can print without any issues. In the future I might sell "real physical" books but the problem is that printing+international shipping is way too expensive at the moment.
Let me know if you have any more questions ok?

I am looking for a beginning-level book that explains the basics of CCNA.
Do you still have the CCNA book for sale? If so, is it up to date? Also, is the book hard-copy or electronic? I would prefer a PDF or app format for Apple.
Thank you.
Rene Molenaar
I still do, I only sell them electronic as PDFs at the moment. If you purchase it you will have immediate download access.

Yes I do believe so. If you want to beat CCNA you'll have to do 2 things:
1) Learn about all the protocols and understand the theory.
2) Do labs to "practice" what you learned.
In my book I describe all the protocols and I explain how to do everything. The labs that you can find for free here will help you to practice.

I gone through your sample CCNA and CCNP Chapters and im very much impressed the way you wrote the book. it is very easy to understand with good examples.
I would like to know whether i can print this PDF file or not. I have a printer of my own and if i can take a print , probably i can print this PDF and study both CCNA and CCNP instead of reading this on Screen.
Also, Do let me know if there is any discount as i am buying both CCNA and CCNP papers.
